The Adolescent Building Connections Program (ABC program) is a trauma informed evidenced based program for young people between the ages of 12 and 18 years. It provides tools and strategies to assist adolescents that are using or are at risk of using unsafe and risk-taking behaviour:
- To understand the impact of their behaviours on those around them.
- To encourage positive choices, growth and emotional development for young people to form and maintain healthy relationships.
Key concepts explored include:
- Exploring and development of emotional intelligence and emotional regulation
- Proactive and positive strategies to support communication and respectful relationships
- Understanding the impact of family violence and conflict in the home and on relationships.
The program targets embedding positive behaviours in the formative stages of development and has the ability to strongly influence patterns and attitudes of participants in developing respectful relationships. This leads to strong relational connections and supports positive mental health.
The ABC program provides tools and strategies to decrease and de-escalate emotional dysregulation, while improving respectful communication techniques and encouraging young people to make more positive choices around the relationships in their lives.
The ABC program has been developed by Quantum utilising the skills and expertise of specialist staff. The program has been structured in consideration of existing evidence-based programs and research.
Minimum group size of six and maximum group size of 12 per program.
Two single gender-based sessions will be delivered consecutively on the same scheduled day/s.
Delivery location to occur at the school premises.
Student places in the program are not interchangeable and need to remain consistent for the duration of program delivery.
Participants are expected to participate in eight, one hour sessions consecutively to complete the program.
The program model is developed on a two-facilitator basis at any one time to support facilitation, engagement and observation. The program does not have a requirement of staff being in attendance.
Schools will be required to provide a suitable space to accommodate the student group, including tables, chairs and sufficient space to accommodate limited physical movement and activity.
Travel within the Latrobe City Council district is included in the price for program delivery.
Additional travel and accommodation costs may apply beyond 100 km from the Latrobe Valley and will be detailed in quoted price.
This is calculated based on each unique program delivery location. Schools wishing to discuss alternate delivery combinations can be provided with a unique costing based on a per group arrangement (to accommodate reduced or increased student numbers).
The cost for program delivery of two groups for eight, one hour sessions for each group is $5,900 excluding GST or $6,490 inclusive of GST.
- Each program consists of eight, one hour sessions. To achieve costing and staffing efficiency, the program is offered in the format of two consecutive gender-based sessions.
- Pricing includes provision of two trained facilitators at each session.
- Groups are capped at a maximum of 12 young people, with a minimum group size of six.
The ABC Schools Mental Health Menu Program is available for delivery in the local government areas within Baw Baw Shire Council, Cardinia Shire Council, Latrobe City, Wellington, and parts of South Gippsland, Bass Coast and East Gippsland Shire Councils.
