Local businesses support youth crisis facility

Residents of Quantum Support Services’ Youth Residential Building, a crisis accommodation facility for young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, will now enjoy greater comfort thanks to the generous support of local businesses.

Each unit of the six-unit facility received upgraded heating and cooling systems, made possible by the contributions of EnergyAustralia, Waco Kwikform and Insulmet, who engaged SPR Plumbing and Refrigeration to supply and install the units.

Quantum’s Youth Housing Supports Team Leader Leeanne Clark said the support from these businesses had enhanced the living conditions for young people in crisis.

“Upgrading the air conditioning units in all six units has made a significant difference, especially with the warmer weather we’ve been having. Air conditioning has never been on offer prior to this generous donation,” Ms Clark said.

“The previous heating system was quite outdated, consumed significant amounts of electricity and was slow to heat. This new system will greatly improve the energy efficiency of the YRB.”

Quantum Support Services operates the Youth Residential Building on behalf of the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing. The facility provides short-term emergency accommodation, information, and support to young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness in Gippsland.

As the only youth refuge in Gippsland that accommodates young parents with their children, as well as singles, the facility has been a crucial resource for the region since 2003. To date, it has supported more than 1000 young people through crisis and into stability.
