Launch of Home Time Campaign 2025
Today the Home Time Campaign launched its federal election platform calling for a commitment to action for children and young people alone with nowhere to live.
Since launching in 2024, over 150 services and agencies have joined the Home Time Campaign, a movement dedicated to addressing the structural barriers that prevent young people from finding a home, healing from trauma, and rebuilding their futures.
With safe and stable housing, young people can escape harm, reconnect with education, secure employment, and build meaningful support networks. But right now, 80 per cent of children and young people lose their homes due to family violence, and the longer they remain trapped in the homelessness system, the more harm is done. Homelessness steals childhoods and futures.
The next federal government has the opportunity to change the story and ensure that unaccompanied children and young people are no longer left out of national housing policies. By sending messages to our local candidates, we can create lasting change.
Home Time is calling on all parties and candidates to commit to:
✅ Developing and maintaining a national pool of 15,000 dedicated tenancies for young people
✅ Providing linked support services to help young people achieve independence
✅ Ending the Youth Housing Penalty that locks young people out of social housing
