EnergyAustralia contribute to Quantum Support Services Women and Children’s Refuge

As a member of the Latrobe Valley region, EnergyAustralia helps to make a positive contribution to the local community. As a consequence, Quantum Support Services was awarded a $9,000 Grant to assist in the development of a multi-purpose play area for the Women and Children’s Refuge.

Quantum along with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) have just relocated the Latrobe Valley Women’s and Children’s Refuge into a new facility. This facility is a beautiful and safe space for women and children escaping family violence. The Refuge includes self-contained units overlooking a common area with a playground and garden. The next step to complete the Refuge is to build a multi-purpose play area court for basketball, ball games and fun activities.

Lisa Simpson, the Manager of Strategy and Community Engagement at Quantum states “The initiative will make a huge difference to the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of children, young people and families who are victim survivors of family violence.”

The multi-purpose court facility will give vulnerable children access to an area where they can take part in therapeutic play, to expend energy in a healthy and creative way. Playing sport and games is an important way to distract the children from the trauma they have been experiencing. It will be a place where they can create positive memories of their time at the refuge, to create bonding opportunities and to re-establish family connections.

Building of the multi-purpose play area will commence in the early half of this year.

Quantum is now looking to raise funds to compliment the new Multi-purpose play area with new sporting equipment such as basketballs, soccer nets, tennis rackets and other equipment to enhance the fun of the play area.
