Supporting Families at Risk of Homelessness (SFAR)
Overview:

The SFAR program aims to break the cycle of homelessness and transience, through intensive and individualised support for each member of the family.

SFAR works with families to:

  • Increase community engagement
  • Increasing living skills
  • Establishing a budget
  • Providing support when children or adolescents display difficult behaviours
  • Advocates for the family in a variety of circumstances

SFAR aims to reduce the likelihood of Child Protection intervention by addressing protective concerns and linking families with relevant services and supports.

The SFAR program assists families to identify individual goals and then works with a strengths based approach to achieve positive outcomes for families.

SFAR links families with community supports and programs such as:
  • Scouts
  • Football/Basketball
  • Swimming
  • Music/Dance lessons
  • After school/Day care
  • School/Tafe/University
  • Financial counselling
  • AOD counselling
  • Mental Health services
  • Kid’s Undercover

SFAR is available to families that have a history of transience, have recently experienced homelessness (within the last six months) and have had a Child Protection history. Families who work with SFAR are generally involved with the program for 12 months.

Eligability:

SFAR services are provided in the Baw Baw and Latrobe Shires.
