Quantum Support Services receives donation for Women and Children’s refuge

Quantum Support Services were thrilled to receive the support of the Newborough East Primary School in leading a donation drive for their Women and Children’s refuge.

Quantum was overwhelmed by the generosity of the school and the community, with the donation drive attracting considerable attention on social media.  The donation drive resulted in a significant quantity and array of goods that will contribute toward assisting women and children to re-establish their lives after the impact of family violence.

Donations included towels, bed sheets, board games, kitchen utensils, pillows, rugs, doonas and much needed monetary donations.

Lisa Simpson, Manager of Innovations and Community Strengthening at Quantum Support Services highlighted the importance of the donations, along with the efforts of Newborough East Primary School in raising awareness about the impacts of family violence stating: “The donation drive has proven very successful in providing an avenue for community to support our service in a very tangible way.  The initiative has also supported an increased awareness in local community of one of the key services offered by our organisation, and on a broader level, the impacts of family violence”.

The Principal of the Newborough East Primary School, Julie Skee stated. “This initiative is something I felt was important, not only in our role as a Respectful Relationships Lead School, but also as a member of the community. Unfortunately, with the rise in numbers of those affected by family violence, and the need for refuge housing, as a school community we wanted to help out in any way we could. The collection of bedding, sanitary products, games etc. was one small way we could do this.”

Quantum’s women’s refuge “Pat’s Place” staff provide a short-term specialised case management response to women and their children, by way of crisis accommodation in direct response toward addressing safety and risk associated with the lived experience of family violence.

Quantum offers support including an outreach service to assist with information, advice and referrals for women, with or without children, experiencing family violence in the Baw Baw, Latrobe and Wellington areas.
